George W. Ragsdale completed twenty years of active military service
and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1980.
During his years of service in the Signal Corps, Air Defense
Artillery, Field Artillery, and Infantry George served in a variety of
leadership, maintenance, operations and training positions.
Shortly after retiring from active duty George completed graduate
school and continued to work another twenty years in such diverse fields
as engineering, management information systems development,
quality/reliability, professional development, training, organizational
development, and productivity consulting.
During this time George also taught graduate level courses in
Finance, Economics, Project and Operations Management; undergraduate and
industrial level courses in Quality, Statistics, Leadership, Maintenance,
and Team Development. Additionally,
he has presented papers at quality conferences on Six Sigma Applications
and Educational Research Techniques.
George’s results-based focus to leadership and
problem solving can be traced to his small unit leadership role as a
combat leader in Vietnam. It
was during this experience that he was able to bring his technical skills
into focus within an operating environment by applying lessons learned in
past roles to produce measurable operational results.
This combat experience has led George to re-evaluate values,
leadership styles, and performance measurements in the context of what it
really means to lead people in a results-based environment.
George’s first Book, “Ben Hai 211 Alpha”, tells the story of
how one individual’s experiences were life altering and set the stage
for his life’s direction after 2 September 1970.
George’s extensive hands-on experience has created a wealth of
knowledge on applying leadership and technical skill sets to strategy
development and on how to link this organizational strategy to the process
level. George’s application
of results focused leadership and systems problem solving ability led him
to develop a productivity model and a new results-based training
philosophy. His current goal
is to publish these concepts of productivity and results-based training.
Vietnam was the worst thing that ever happened in George’s life; but
it was also the best thing that ever happened in his life.
The experiences of this conflict opened a world of new
possibilities and realities which he hopes to share in this and future
publications.
[After surviving numerous assaults in Vietnam, and
realizing his lifelong dream of writing this book on his experiences,
George was stung by a wasp a few weeks after publishing his book, and died
on the spot.]
